egg

(from a book dated 12/08)

the sleek space ship
was shaped
like a stretched egg
with pencils for engines
and for a bridge deck
a wooden peg.

it came in through the window
and landed on the table
its red and white
navigation lights blinking.

the whole villiage came to see
when a long thin metallic arm
emerged from the tail of the ship
with a pair of lips at its tip
which suddenly started drinking

from a puddle of oozing wet
peanut butter on the floor.

untill the egg grew and grew
to the size of a canoe.
so the villiagers knew what to do
they climbed on its back
and drifted out to the black.
