My story (resume)

I was born in New London Connecticut, and grew up in Stonington Connecticut. I spent my youth on the water in boats, and did a lot of sailing with my dad. We had a Catboat called the "Clam". Boats became central to my identity.

Then I went to Art school at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and got a bachelors in Fine Art.That was in 1983. In  1987 I started working as a guard at the Museum of Fine Arts. I still have the same job today.  For many years I drew and painted various Ideas that came from my head during long hours at work in the museum, which tried to use boats as a mere departure point for my imagination. I figured If I departed from the boats I might find a way to express what I was trying to say about the boats. Here is an example that kind of surrealism:

I drew and painted imaginary buildings by the sea, water powered machines that would work if built, tanks of water hanging from rigging wires, sculpted ocean waves, imaginary sailboats sailing into rooms, all kinds of things.

Meanwhile, my passion for sailing model yachts had always been huge, always will be. In the last year or so I decided to quit departing from the source, and go right to it. Now I am painting things that try to tell the only story that really interests me, which is what these boats are, and what they can do.
